Ingredients

Check off items as you gather them
  1. 1 cup singhara (water chestnut) flour
  2. 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  3. 1/4 cup ghee
  4. 2 cups water
  5. 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  6. 2 tablespoons chopped nuts (almonds or cashews) for garnish
  7. Optional: A pinch of saffron strands soaked in 1 tablespoon warm milk

Method / Preparation

Follow step-by-step instructions
  1. Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat and add the singhara flour. Roast it gently until it becomes aromatic and light golden.
  2. Meanwhile, in a separate saucepan, bring the water and sugar to a boil until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Slowly pour the boiling sugar syrup into the roasted flour, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Cook the mixture on low heat for about 7–10 minutes until it thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
  5. Stir in the cardamom powder and, if using, the saffron infusion. Mix in the chopped nuts.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm as a comforting farali sheero.
